Huang Tai Ji (TW)

Huang Tai Ji, a karate coach at Nantou Shiuhkuang Senior High School, Taiwan, was awarded the 11th Compassion Award in 2016. After the devastating 921 Earthquake, Coach Huang and his wife immediately went to the disaster area to care for the affected students, ensuring they stayed on the right path while training underprivileged youth to become karate athletes.

Overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving the award, Coach Huang expressed his gratitude, stating that the prize money would allow them to continue providing living expenses for students and athletes without worry while also funding their international competitions and training.

Coach Huang was nominated for the Compassion Award three times before finally receiving it in 2016. His perseverance, embodying the never-give-up spirit of karate, and his unwavering dedication to disadvantaged students prove that with a kind and generous heart, the seeds of love will surely blossom and bear fruit.

Charles McKnelly (HK)

Pastor Charles McKnelly, known as the "Father of Hong Kong's Street Children," was honored with the 11th Compassion Award in 2016. For 56 years, he has remained steadfast in his mission of serving the underprivileged in Hong Kong, dedicating his entire fortune to charity. He established orphanages and gospel-based drug rehabilitation centers, aiming to help substance abusers through faith and medical support.

William, WenYuan Wong (TW)

William, WenYuan Wong, the president of the Formosa Plastics Group, was awarded the 11th 2016 Compassion Award. For many years, President Wong has treated philanthropy as both a responsibility and a habit, applying the management principles used in running the company to "manage" charitable efforts. He has systematically and comprehensively promoted social welfare and charity initiatives in Taiwan and Mainland China, reaching out to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, prisoners, individuals with disabilities, women, and children, benefiting countless people in society.

President Wong donated the full 90,000 USD prize from the Compassion Award to charity and further contributed by donating additional funds to the Taiwanese Ministry of Justice, expanding the "AIDS Prevention and Prison Drug Rehabilitation Program" in other prisons. His goal is to help more drug offenders reintegrate into normal society and family life. President Wong said, "If we can help one person, it is equivalent to helping a family and contributing to social stability."

Recipient of the 11th Annual 2016 Compassion Award: Ms. Zhang Shuqin, who gave up a stable job and life to establish "Sun Village" in places such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Shaanxi, helping the children of incarcerated individuals who lacked caregivers.

Zhang Shuqin said: "These past twenty-plus years have been both difficult and heartbreaking, but I never gave up." Her greatest wish is to raise these vulnerable and innocent children to adulthood, helping them break free from the emotional shadows and burdens left by their parents, so that they may become well-educated, self-sufficient individuals who can serve society.

"Children are innocent, and they find salvation in their confusion; after suffering, they are reunited, thanks to the hands of love." Let us witness Ms. Zhang Shuqin’s selfless love that changed the destinies of these children.

Liang Yongning (CN)

Mr. Liang Yongning, known as the "Guangdong Charity Expert," was awarded the 11th 2016 Compassion Award. Mr. Liang has been battling ankylosing spondylitis for over 50 years, and while struggling with his illness, he has remained dedicated to helping vulnerable groups in society. Through over a hundred charity auctions on Weibo, he has raised tens of thousands of yuan to support impoverished students and people with disabilities.
